Job Description
We are excited to invite an experienced Clinical Pharmacist to join our team for a 13-week assignment at a healthcare facility in Nome, Alaska. This is an exceptional opportunity for a pharmacist eager to expand their skills in a dynamic healthcare environment while making a difference in a unique and close-knit community.
Key Responsibilities:
Medication Order Verification: Ensure accuracy and appropriateness of medication orders across various departments.
Sterile Compounding & Verification: Prepare and verify sterile medications in line with hospital protocols.
Clinic Inspections: Perform pharmacy inspections across multiple clinic settings within the hospital.
Comprehensive Pharmacy Services:
Acute Care Pharmacy: Order verification, drug therapy monitoring, lab review, sterile product compounding, and discharge counseling.
Primary Care Pharmacy: Provide drug information to healthcare providers, conduct proactive chart reviews, authorize refills, manage anticoagulation therapy, and administer vaccinations.
Quyanna Care Center (Long-Term Care): Perform chart reviews, offer medication consultations, and prepare prescriptions.
Outpatient Pharmacy: Verify prescriptions, fill orders, provide patient counseling, and offer vaccinations.
Village Health Services: Support village clinics by entering prescriptions, optimizing Pickpoint systems, and conducting clinic inspections.
Collaboration with Healthcare Team: Work closely with physicians to optimize drug therapy and monitor patient outcomes.
Formulary Management: Contribute to formulary reviews, track drug usage, and ensure cost-effective medication therapies.
Education & Mentorship: Mentor pharmacy students, lead staff education sessions, and participate in Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) committees.
Qualifications:
Active Pharmacist License (any state; Alaska licensure not required for this position)
Inpatient Pharmacy Experience (required)
At least 2 years of experience preferred, or 1 year of post-graduate residency experience in a hospital setting
Experience with clinical pharmacy services, medication therapy management, and direct patient care
