Job Overview

Accurately collects and handles appropriate patient samples for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease in support of clinical laboratory operations.

We are looking for a motivated, detail-oriented, highly organized, team-oriented person to join our South Campus Outpatient Laboratory team! Our laboratory testing plays a key role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of pediatric, adult and prenatal conditions. With state-of-the-art laboratory services, facilities and technologies, we support and guide quality patient care across the pediatric spectrum. Our labs offer a wide range of high-quality lab screenings and diagnostic tests with rapid turnaround times, as well as an unmatched scope and capabilities, including diagnostic tests that aren't available anywhere else in the country. Department Name: South Campus OP Lab

Job Status: Full time, 40 hours/week

Shift: Monday- Friday, 0700-1730 with one day off during the week. 4-10 hour shifts. Rotating Saturdays, 8am-12pm

Starting pay rate at $19.17/hr or above (based on hours worked and years of experience).

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION – High School Diploma or equivalent
  • EXPERIENCE – Phlebotomist certificate or Medical Assistant certificate or EMT certificate (CO EMT or NREMT) or 6 months of experience as a Phlebotomist, MA or EMT.

POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE

Neonate - 30 days to 1yr
  • Toddlers - >1yr to 3yrs
  • Pre-Schoolers - >3yrs to 5yrs
  • School age - >5yrs to 13yrs
  • Adolescent - >13yrs to 18yrs

Essential Functions

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

  • Procure blood from patients by venipuncture, fingerstick or heelstick to obtain blood samples for analysis following age-specific guidelines.
  • Ensures patient is correctly identified through the hospital registration system, accounts numbers are current and correct tests are ordered; checks requisitions for data entry errors and resolves questionable orders in a timely manner.
  • Accurately prepares specimens for distribution and analysis according to laboratory procedures.
  • Creates hospital registration encounters.
  • Responds in a timely manner to patient/customer needs, including prompt attention to pneumatic tubes, customer deliveries, patient wait times and phone calls.
  • Performs laboratory functions according to guidelines established by regulatory agencies, including familiarization with regulations and quality indicators.
  • Performs reagent, inventory and general maintenance, as required.
  • Collects additional non-blood specimens within scope of practice including, but not limited, to nasopharyngeal swabs, throat swabs, buccal swabs and urine specimens.
  • May perform waived testing according to guidelines and documents quality control appropriately.

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $36,536.65 to $54,804.97
