UConn?s Facilities Operations Department has a job opening for a Maintenance Supervisor 1 ? Grounds position within the Public Works Shop. This is a permanent, full-time, 1st shift position, with a work schedule of Monday ? Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., 37.5 hours per week with an unpaid half an hour for lunch. The hourly rate of pay will be determined based on the employee?s current Step of the TC Pay Plan.
This position is categorized as Emergency Support Services/Essential Staff. Must be willing to work during emergency closures/delayed openings due to inclement weather or for significant events that affect campus operations. Applicants must also be willing to respond to emergencies on overtime (nights, weekends, holidays and weather/storm related events). Please note that Facilities Operations NP-2 employees may also be required to perform job duties as assigned at any of the Regional Campuses.

This position is categorized as ?Open to Agency Only?. Current, qualified UConn NP-2 employees will be considered for this position. This position requires considerable knowledge of modern methods and equipment involved in grounds maintenance, a variety of trades, along with knowledge and experience with supervising employees assigned to snow and ice removal duties, and the materials and equipment used to perform snow and ice removal tasks.
Applicants are required to possess a current CDL and must retain the CDL throughout employment with the University.

At UConn, the Maintenance Supervisor I ? Grounds position, within the Public Works Shop of the Facilities Operations Department, is responsible for supervising a crew of highly skilled trade workers and skilled workers. This position is responsible for coordinating the daily work assignments for Skilled Maintainer and General Trades Worker employees; scheduling and assigning work to staff through AiM, estimating labor and material for jobs including writing quotes; providing information to supervisors and managers on the progress of jobs in the shop; working with contractors and other trades employees; assisting employees with troubleshooting work and resolving issues; working with the higher level supervisor and manager to address disciplinary actions as required; monitoring the progress of job assignments through completion; assisting with the planning, preparation and coverage for large events such as Commencement, snow/weather, sports related, etc.; establishing good customer relations/communication; reviewing/approving timesheets in CORE-CT and completing overtime equalization rosters; completing administrative computer work and paperwork as required; working with the Facilities Operations Business Services Staff to coordinate Environmental Health & Safety and UConn training for employees. This position also provides additional supervisory support to the MS2 ? Utilities when needed for the crew consisting of STA-Utilities, QCW Utilities and QCW Masonry employees, and provides additional support, and may cover in the absence of the other MS1 ? Grounds when needed for the crew consisting of a Master Gardener and University Arborists. The MS1 ? Grounds positions work together to share the responsibility of supervising the Snow and Ice Team, Subcontractors and Student Labor employees.
