Food Service Technician - PM

Department: Campus Dining - Park Place Cafe - 170450

Minimum Qualifications
Experience in food preparation or service activities in a commercial kitchen; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

License/Certification Required

Essential Job Functions
  • Maintaining all university specifications pertaining to production and service.
  • Control proper usage and rotation of food.
  • Ensure food quality and appearance on buffet.
  • Alert Chef or direct supervisor to any food quality issues that could hurt culinary operations.
  • Maintain walk-in coolers and food storage areas daily.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and sanitary workstation.
  • The person selected must follow cleaning and sanitation procedures and other duties as assigned by a supervisor.
  • Serves appropriate portion sizes determined by Unit Management

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
  • Knowledge of methods of preparation and cooking of food in quantity lots.
  • Knowledge of the uses of various pieces of equipment, including but not limited to steamers, steam pots, fryers, grills, slicers, and ovens.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of personal cleanliness as well as food sanitation.
  • The job requires attention to detail, initiative, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Team player attitude and superior customer service skills are required.
  • Initiative to work beyond what is requested within the unit to achieve business goals of quality and service standards.
  • Knowledge of basic math and ability to portion serving sizes as needed.
  • Ability to interact effectively with coworkers of diverse ages, backgrounds, and interests.
  • Ability to work as a team member under rushed conditions without loss of efficiency or effectiveness.
  • Strong customer service skills, the ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and the ability to prepare and serve food while adhering to Appalachian State Campus Dining, and the State Board of Health regulations.
  • Demonstrates engaging customer service to the Appalachian community.

Preferred Qualifications
2+ years of related front of house food service experience. ServSafe certification should be obtained within 1 year of employment.

Work Schedule/Hours: Campus Dining is a Sunday – Saturday, 6:00 am – 11:00 pm operation. Operations are reduced during university breaks. Employees are scheduled two days off each week based on business need. Days off may not be consecutive days off.Food Service Technician (FST) – PMTypical hours are 3pm-12am.Actual schedule time may vary.Operations are reduced during university breaks. Employees may be required to work some flex hours to support the needs of the business and/or for special campus events. Schedules will be adjusted as needed to provide coverage in these cases.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $31,488 - $35,845
