The Mental Health Therapist will play a key role in supporting students' overall well-being by providing individual and group counseling services. This position involves working closely with students, parents, teachers, and other professionals to ensure a supportive and effective learning environment. The therapist will serve students across California, offering both virtual and in-person support as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Counseling Services: Provide individual and group counseling sessions to help students resolve interpersonal or family issues that may impact their academic success. Offer crisis intervention as needed to address urgent emotional or behavioral challenges.
Assessment & Collaboration: Conduct interviews with students, families, and school staff to assess students' emotional, social, and behavioral adjustment to school and the community. Gather necessary information to create effective counseling plans.
Parent Communication: Maintain regular communication with students' parents/guardians to update them on progress, discuss any challenges, and inform them of situations at home that could influence school performance.
IEP Participation: Provide timely input during Individualized Education Plans (IEP) meetings and work collaboratively with educators and specialists to ensure the best outcomes for students with special needs. Adhere to all school, state, and federal regulations.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, parents, district staff, and other professionals to find solutions to academic and behavioral issues. Contribute to meetings and share expertise in supporting students' needs.
Progress Monitoring: Assess student progress regularly through classroom data collection. Provide guidance and training to classroom staff on how to best address students' needs, based on observed progress and challenges.
Crisis Management: Provide consultation and support during crises, collaborating with school staff and families to ensure a quick and effective response to challenging situations.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling (School Social Work Specialist credential), Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related field. Must meet the requirements for the appropriate license or credential.
Licensing and Credentials:
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential in California (LCSW, ASCW, AMFT)
Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with Google Suite, Zoom, and IEP platforms such as SEIS (preferred).
Work Availability: Must be available for 15-25 hours per week during business hours to serve students.
Additional Requirements:
Resume with license or credential number.
California Credential (required).
Two professional references within the past two years.
Current TB test.
Valid California driver's license and proof of car insurance.
Working Conditions:
A blend of in-person and remote work settings.
Travel to various locations as required.
